Keith Rocka Knittel
Everything Must Go! Swap Meet
April 16 - April 16, 2016
Artist's Reception: April 16, 2016, 5-9pm
“The concept of “merchandising” is completely lost on many of these amateur vendors. It seems like many are indifferent about actually selling anything and instead are more interested in the social aspects…get out of the house, avoid boredom, see old friends, sit outside, read a book and smoke.”
–Yelp review of the Alpine Village Swap Meet
Charlie James Gallery is delighted to host the first iteration of Keith Rocka Knittel’s Everything Must Go! Swap Meet, an expansion of the artist’s ongoing Everything Must Go! series. Conceived as a means to purge records from his personal collection, Everything Must Go! has thus far included dj sets, readings, performances, and a radio program. For the Everything Must Go! Swap Meet, Rocka Knittel will create a swap meet outside of Charlie James Gallery on Chung King Road, on Saturday, April 16, from 5-9 PM.
Inaugural Swap Meet artists include Vacancy Projects, Jason Roberts Dobrin, Either Way LA, Chris Hanke, Carl Pomposelli, and Keith Rocka Knittel who will be vending their wares from display blankets laid out on Chung King Rd. Churros and signature Swap Meet cocktails will be served.
In addition, select artists Leslie Dick, Kristofferson San Pablo, Kate Hall, and Matthew Clifford Green have been invited by Rocka Knittel to engage with him in conversations through guest dj sets composed entirely of records from his collection. Through this process records will be sold, given away, or swapped.
Keith Rocka Knittel holds an MFA from CalArts. He has shown his work in contemporary art spaces, such as the Hammer Museum, Human Resources LA, and Otras Obras. Keith’s curatorial projects include Yard Pedro (Instagram: @yardpedro) and Harborview & Pole. Rocka Knittel’s Everything Must Go! radio show on KCHUNG is now in its fourth year on the air. He lives and works in San Pedro, California where he attempts to break down the linear preconceptions of time and space.
